Seed Programme

Non-GMO cotton seed production

Quality organic cotton seed supply to the project farmers is paramount as the organic standards start from the seed level. Farmers mostly purchase chemically treated seeds from private seed suppliers, which is against the organic principles. We at Anandi Eco Farms produce Surabhi, Suraj, Suraksha and Suvin cotton variety seeds by following the Tamil Nadu Government seed certification norms. The seeds produced are not chemically treated & are only fuzzy seeds.

To meet the demands of the Project farmers and the standards of Certification, we purchase cotton breeder seeds (GMO-free) varieties of Suvin (39mm), Surabhi (33mm) & and Suraj (29mm) from the Govt. Cotton Research Station Coimbatore. The same is multiplied in the fields of the project farmers with due certification from Govt. Dept & distributed to the project farmers. The seeds distributed to the farmers are GMO-free F1 seeds. They are genetically pure with good vigour and better results and are sold with a seed license from our state government (TN). Only fuzzy seeds are used with cow dung slurry treatment, for better germination and seedling growth. Farm compost is applied to the soil. The crop and soil need only organic manure. Farm waste is made for farm use. No monetary expenses for the farmer. It is only on-farm input. Bio input like Amirthakaraisal, which is cow dung-based preparation is mixed with irrigation water and irrigated into the soil. It improves microbial populations including earthworms besides adding nutrients to the soil.
