Awareness & Engagement

Awareness & Engagement

The following continuous activities have been brought about in our project area, to improve the soil health, which is the foundation for group cultivation very successfully.

Crop Rotation

Crop rotation with pulses and ground nut have been brought about, before and after the cotton crop, to improve the required soil nutrient for successful cotton cultivation. Maize which is a nutrient-depleting crop, which was in the crop rotation has now been dispensed gradually.

Green Manure Cultivation

Green manure crop namely daincha, is sown prior to cultivation of cotton and pouched incite for the addition of various nutrients to the soil for soil enrichment for cotton cultivation.

Ploughing the Cotton Stalks in the Field

Cotton stalks after the collection, kappas are ploughed into the soil using Tractor Rotavator, for soil enrichment. Earlier farmers used to leave the cotton stalks on the field and burn them in the field itself causing air & soil pollution, which was dangerous to soil agriculture.

Application of Soil Compost

Well-decomposed, farm compost & tank silt are applied to the field, which has soil humus and all required nutrients, namely macro & micronutrients, required for better crop yield. The application of chemical fertilizers has been dispensed with the addition of organic manures. Organic inputs like amrita karaisal are prepared with cow dung & cow urine available on the farm.

Soil Testing

Soil samples of the project farmers are analyzed periodically in the Govt Laboratory free of cost. The analytical fee is borne by our association. Soil testing helps the farmers to assess and know about their soil nutrient status, which will help them to apply only the required quantity of manures. Every year Rs.12,000 is utilized from fair trade premium.

All the above practices & activities namely crop rotation, Green manuring ploughing the cotton stalks in the field, application of decomposed farm compost & soil testing amounts to good soil health, results in pollution-free water & air, provide a safe life to one & all in a continuous manner. The project farmers & labors are leading a safe life, without any pollution, which is one of the major concepts of fair trade.

Planting Lime seedlings

1000s of Lime fruit seedlings have been distributed to each household including Labour colonies. Lime trees will fetch some income to the people concerned every year. Lime fruits can be used for various preparations that will be helpful for human health.

Inclusivity & Non-discrimination

To encourage Non-Discrimination both genders are employed for the same work like the collection of cotton kappa’s, weeding etc. In local schools, all children from farmer’s families, labourers families, male & female children, poor & rich are admitted irrespective of caste & without any discrimination. All children go to school and no child Labour exits in our project area. The producers in meetings and accessions of the labourers are free to make any open decisions, in a democratic way. Agri work-wise, social activities-wise and education-wise there is no discrimination in our project area, in any sector. Disabled persons are helped by the Govt for their redress.
